United for Kiambu No Longer at Ease

Hon. Dr. James  Nyoro an agricultural economist of great repute and a man I hold in the highest esteem. I respect him as an academician and because of his personal achievements at national as well as at the global arena. His administrative, as well as managerial abilities, are some of the strengths people of Kiambu County are set to benefit from. He entered into a formidable political outfit together with televangelist Bishop Gakuyo and Governor Ferdinand Waitutu to send “Kaba Kabogo brigade” home in the just concluded August 8th General election.
The United for Kiambu has hit the road running with various projects that are impacting positively on Kiambu County residents lives barely 2 months in the office. These achievements have made even the doubting Thomas’s take note and agree that if this team goes on like this Kiambu county is the County to watch. What with the construction of new Kiambu stage, the proposed railway revival project and The Thika access road constructions to name but a few.
However current developments pointing towards a possible split between the Kiambu Governor and his Deputy Governor, have left most of the Kiambu county residents bewildered. Based on the past experiences from other counties, county political differences widen as time goes by. When this happens it usually has a  very negative impact on developmental projects in this county for example as it was the case in Nyeri, Machakos, Makueni Kisumu and Embu.  Those who are for a better Kiambu should be genuinely concerned if indeed this is true. All development conscious residents of Kiambu County would love to see this rift reconciled soon if not later. The leaders must know that it is because of their unity that they have accomplished the much they have achieved that far.
I know for sure Dr. Nyoro is an ambitious man with equal abilities with Babayao. It is rumored that they might have entered into a pre-election MOU with Babayao, but from experience, most of political MOU’s in Kenya whether at a regional level or nationally are never realized. Firstly because they are never anchored in Law and secondly, some of the proposed powers sharing arrangement are based on sharing powers which are constitutionally vested on the person who will take the higher office in our case the Governor’s office. The powers of the governor are enshrined under Section 31 of the constitution whereas section 30(2) enumerates the functions of the governor.
the Kenyan Constitution is silent on The powers and roles of the deputy governor and only states that he should deputize the governor.  This is the point of departure of the conflict that was witnessing between Babayao and Dr. Nyoro. The Deputy doesn't want to deputize.
All that is left for the Deputy governor is to shelf his ambitions for now and toe the line. There is no need for the side shows that we are witnessing now. The campaign period is officially over and this is the opportune time that all of us settle down to our respective role of building a better Kiambu. It is time to forge forward towards the future. Forget about that before the elections you were equal principal. as we speak Babayao is the Boss let bygone be bygone. I wish you can borrow a leaf from the former Kiambu Deputy Governor.  Ask how many Kiambu residents even knew his name you will find only a handful. That’s the reality, that’s the law that how you should behave.
The fact is the Deputy cannot succeed without the support of the boss, his skills should complement those of the boss.  The deputy can have a major impact working quietly behind the scene. He should be ready to bury his ego and take satisfaction in behind -the -scene wins. Promote the boss plan even when in disagreement. He should tell but not criticize the boss when he makes mistakes. And he should protect the boss from unnecessary surprises.
Lastly as a deputy don’t try to,  glorify yourself,  don’t be afraid to challenge your boss positively, don’t try to compete with the boss, don’t try to pursue goals that are different from the boss, and  lastly Bro don’t try building your career on being number two coz it will backfire.
Let us all unite and Build our Kiambu, Let us avoid those things that will divide and engage in things that will unite us, 2022 bad Mbali Sana Ndugu.
