Wangu wa Makeri was born in Muranga at around 1856 at Gitei
village in Kangema Muranga County. She
was a colonial administrator who was feted like a queen. She was revered and as
well feared by men because of her tyrannical attitude she had against men. It
is on record that she used to be carried by men on their back in rounds
wherever she wanted to go. Her heavy-handedness was extended to her marriage.
She was married to one wealthy man called Makeri from muranga with whom they
had a troubled marriage. But where Makeri failed and typical of Kiambu men,
Wangu was impregnated and taken back to her rightful place by a man from Kiambu
County “the Paramount Chief Karuri wa Gakure from Karuri Kiambu.” Whenever the
chief was visiting Muranga he could pass by Makeri’s home, and since they were
age mates with the husband Wangu wa Makeri would entertain him for the night,
it seems this man was a real lover boy because later on the two became
inseparable. It is only after Karuri wa Gakure impregnated the iron lady that
Muranga men became liberated.
Ndio unaonanga
wanaume wa Muranga wana heshimu wanaume wa Kiambu
